She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Lindsey Depriest and Vilas Virginia Johnson DePriest; her husband Everette Eugene "Buddy" Messer; her daughter Cindy Coomer Marks of Mount Pleasant, NC; her siblings, Susie Bagley, Tom "Bud" DePriest and Glen DePriest; and her great grandchild Zachary Stapleton.
She is survived by: her daughters, Janie Bateman (Wally) of Chesapeake, VA and Kelli West (Butch) of Kingsport, TN; her grandchildren, Justin Taylor, Isaiah Coomer, Chase Coomer, Christian Coomer, Jacob Marks, Benjamin Marks, Aaron Salyers and Abby Grills; her great grandchildren, Jayden Taylor, Tucker Grills and Emma Coomer; and her siblings, Phyllis Smith of Norton, VA, Ted DePriest (Shirley) of Castlewood, VA and Roy DePriest (Leota) of Bristol, VA. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
