He was predeceased by: his parents, Louise Victoria Owens (Clevinger) and Earl Melvin Owens; his wife Waltraud "Trudy" Gunda Huszti; his sister Barbra Owens Stiltner; his siblings-in-law, R. C. Nash and Margaret Owens; his nephew Dorsey Owens Jr.; and his great-niece Leah Brook Owens.
He is survived by: his children, Earl Owens and Julie Jessee; his grandchildren, Jordan Burgan, Jacob Jessee and Jarrett Jessee; his great grandchildren, Lydia Tru and Lena Anne; his siblings, Helen Nash of Sugar Grove, WV, Sue Hargrove (Edward) of Huntsville, AL, Sherry Shortt (Terry) of Fayetteville, WV, Patty Elswick (Robert) of Grundy, Dorsey of Grundy, David (Becky) of Grundy, Olen (Shelia) of Grundy and Gary of Grundy; and his siblings-in-law, Steven Huszti (Hannah) of Red Lion, PA, Julie Hildebrand (Lyn) of Abingdon Va and Susanne Huszti of Essex, MD..
