He was predeceased by: his parents, Vance Carter and Maudella Mefford; and his siblings, Hubbard, Doyle Melvin Carter, Coy-Lee Carter and Priscilla Ernest.
He is survived by: his wife Margie Helen Phillips Carter; his children, David Allen Carter (Alissa), Amanda Suzanne Carter Martin (Shane Martin) of Falls Mills, VA and Daniel Jacob Carter; his grandchildren, Hannah Grace Carter Shular (Joseph Shular), Lara Brooke Carter, Jeremy Ryan Carter, David Allen Carter II, Madison Jade Carter, Indie Faith Carter, Geary Shane Martin II and Evelyn Faye-Rose Martin; his great grandchild Mackenzie Jo; and his brothers, Jimmy Wayne Carter (Lisa), Shellar Carter and Owen Carter (Rebecca). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, in-laws and friends.
