He was predeceased by: his parents, George David Hellas and Effie Mae Hillman Hellas; his wife Bea Hellas; and his siblings, George David Hellas, Jr. and Norma "Jeannie" Hollins.
He is survived by: his children, Donald "DJ" Hellas, Jr. (Tracey) of Bland, VA and Donna Kay Hellas; his sisters, Mary Lynn Baldwin of North Tazewell, VA and Patricia Gayle Messer of Mosely, VA; and his grandson Devon Mackay Hellas.
