She was predeceased by: her parents, Thomas Payton and Bertha Mae Forehand Newbern; her husband Lester "Buddy" G. Hales; her son Lester "Les" G. Hales; and her siblings, Neva Curling, Carl "Dugie" Newbern, Tess Powell and Vernell Henderson.
She is survived by: her daughter Slay Chappell (David); her sister Lucrethia (Henry); her nieces and nephews, Pam Laws, Dan Cannady, Bee Powell, Sherry Powell, Lynn, Mark Morris, Karrie, Jake Stepp, Dylan, Cami Stepp, Kyle, Emily Laws, Austin, Jenn Laws, Kelyn, Brian Yourmans, Troy, Carroll Curling, Angel, Todd Harrell, Shannon, Ryan Stoner, Shane Curling, Suzanne Weaver, Kelly Bohrer (Matt) and Kadence Grace Gardner; and her pet Jovi Chappell (Noni Hales).
A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 3rd 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Woodlawn Memorial Gardens (6309 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk, VA 23502).
