Gideon left this world on February 16, 2025 at the age of 86, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. He was predeceased by: his former wife Malka; and his parents, Werner Riess and Tova Riess. He is survived by: his wife Edna; his children, Shlomo, Amir, Anat, Amalia (Jenna) and Marie Diaz; his grandchildren, Malka, Adan, Yuval, Oren, Shira and Ido; and his great grandchild Reef.

A graveside service was held on Friday, February 21st 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Forest Lawn Cemetery (3901 Forest Lawn Drive, Norfolk, VA 23504).

“Edna….Robyn and I send our condolences to you and Amalia and all of the family on Gideon’s passing. I especially remember the special honor of having an Aliyah at Amalia’s bat mitzvah. The first time I met Gideon when you came to Virginia Beach was because he needed a lawyer to handle a real estate purchase. He told the agent that he wanted a Jewish lawyer. I was the only one that she knew! Thereafter Gideon had me handle all of them for many years. Please stay well. Carl Markowitz”

Austen Lake and I were talking about Gideon's kindness and always offering things, such as his vacation homes and cars. He was humorous and fun. And his cooking, Oh Yeah! He will be missed. Bill Webb”
