He is survived by: his wife Anne Hatten Sweetman of Newport News; his sister Nancy McGarry of St. Petersburg, Fla.; his sons, Richard Stuart Sweetman of Newport News and Stephen Edward Sweetman of Raleigh, N. C.; his stepdaughters, Cary Hatten Quinn (Ethan) of Leesburg and Meredith Hatten Gentine; and his parents, Henry Edward and Margaret Sweetman. He is also survived by five grandchildren and nieces.
