She was predeceased by: her husband William Eugene Middleton (Gene); her son William Randolph Rhodes (Billy); her father Josiah Pitts Gayle III; her siblings, Josiah Pitts Gayle IV (Joe), John Ferguson Gayle, Edward Wright Gayle, Elliot Younger Gayle and Sallie Gayle Spaulding; and her brother-in-law Frederick Paul Middleton (Freddie).

She is survived by: her mother Sallie Ferguson Gayle; and her children, Sallie Ruth Rhodes (Norman Beaver), Maury Eugene Middleton (Pam) and Troy Frederick Middleton (Kim). She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
