He was predeceased by: his parents, James Leroy and Ella Fyfe Nelms; and his brother James L. Nelms, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Irene Baker Nelms; his daughters, Gwenn Green (Dan) of Newport News and Rebecca Hughes (Justin) of Yorktown, Virginia.; his grandchildren, Patrick (Sierra), William Green, Summer and Ella Hughes; and his brother David Nelms (Gale).
