He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Harris and Audrey Harris; and his siblings, Angela Johnson and Gary Harris. He is survived by: his wife Rosalind Harris; his children, Christopher Harris, Stephen Harris, Bernard Johnson (Shannon), Kirby Johnson, Michael Johnson (De'Johnna), Rosebud Henderson and Winter Curtis; his siblings, Reta Blackwell (Leroy), Larry Harris (Gloria) and Roberta Griffin (Keith); and his pet Stormy. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews.

He was honored with the Darcy Royal "Chippy" Harris Drug-Free Scholarship Foundation Award in 2006, embodying his dedication to supporting his community.
