He was predeceased by: his parents, Roger Lee Sr. and Glenda Jane "Janie" Reedy Shafer; his wife Wendy Cubbage Shafer; and his siblings, Roger "Porky" Shafer, Jr., Bobby Shafer and Holly Sue Shafer.

He is survived by: his daughter Angel Shafer of New Market; and his siblings, James "Buckwheat" Shafer (Tara) of Singers Glen and Lisa Lonas of Basye. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
