She was predeceased by: her parents, Oliver Jackson Slaydon and Annie Beatrice Slaydon; her husband Alfred F. Day; and her siblings, Jimmy Slaydon, Clifford Slaydon, Allen Slaydon and Eleanor Garlick.

She is survived by: her daughters, Jeanette Day Warwick (Curt) and Elizabeth Day; her granddaughter Morgan Dowdy (Jayke); and her great grandchild Adelyn Dowdy.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, February 18th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Lotz Funeral Home (1330 E Main St, Salem, VA 24153). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 18th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Good Samaritan Hospice in Shirley's memory.

“Dear Day family, Your Mom was our dear, dear friend. We spent many months each year together at ocean Waves Campground. Al was Bill's fishing buddy, and Shirley and I walked together, caned together, crafted together, played cards together, yard saled together, churched together, ate together, and talked together. Many of my secrets are with her, and hers are safe with me. We will miss her terribly but know she is now with her "Honey!" Fondly, Bill and Eunie Powell”
