He was predeceased by: his father Eugene Pence; his daughter Angela Pence; and his former wife Rebecca Mae Moses. He is survived by: his mother Elsie Cromer Hilbert of Harrisonburg; his children, John D. Pence, Jr. of Harrisonburg, Eugene Pence (Tina Dean) of Harrisonburg and Debra Layman (Richard Forgey) of Mount Solon; his brother Ronnie Pence (Lou) of Harrisonburg; his half-sisters, Barbara Hilbert of Grottoes and Lisa Thompson (Rick) of Broadway; his former wife Carla Wagner Pence of North Carolina; and his stepfather Ira "Red" Hilbert of Harrisonburg. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
