She was predeceased by: her parents, Milton Frank and Ethel Cecilia Rowley (Merritt); her husband John Robert Cates; her children, Robert "Skippy" Cates and Barbara Jo Young; and her brothers, Vincent and Robert Rowley.

She is survived by: her daughters, Patricia Vincent (Larry) and Nancy Lombardi (Guy); and her brother James Rowley. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
