LEN A. DEMBY Obituary

Len A. Demby was suddenly called home to be with his Lord on April 27, 2022. He was born the third child of James E. Demby and Mavis Smith Demby of Chesapeake, Virginia on May 13, 1972. He married Holly D. Bluthardt on April 2, 1999. Len received his early education in the Chesapeake Public School System. After graduating Western Branch High School, Len attended Old Dominion University, where he earned a Bachelor of Sciences & Social Studies, December 8, 1994, Len also received his Masters Degree in Counseling from Hampton University.

Len work at the Juvenile Correctional Center in Beaumont, Virginia as a Counselor. In the Portsmouth School System, Len served as a counselor for at-risk juveniles. He also worked at Sussex 1 State Prison as a counselor to the inmates, as well as, those inmates serving their time on death row. Up until his passing, Len was serving as a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor at BrightView (formally Right Path Treatment Center) in Midlothian, VA.

Len leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 24 years, Holly D. Demby; a daughter, Hope V. Demby of Richmond, VA; a son, Len Alan Demby Jr., of Richmond, VA.; brothers, James E. Demby, Jr. (Joan), of Gainesville, VA; Ken A. Demby (Tonja) of Frisco, TX; parents, James and Mavis Demby of Chesapeake, VA; a niece, Justice A. Demby of Gainesville, VA; a nephew, James E. Demby III of Gainesville, VA; and a host of cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that monetary donations be made to the Community Presbyterian Church of Portsmouth Board of Deacons, in honor of Len Alan Demby. The Board of Deacons will ensure that all donations received will be disseminated to our area homeless and substance abuse programs to further the memory of Len's mission and his life's passion to lift up those needing that extra love and support.

The Viewing will be held on Monday, May 9th 2022 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the T. J. Fisher Funeral Services (1248 George Washington Hwy. N. Chesapeake, VA 23323). A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 10th 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Community Presbyterian Church (801 Tazewell Street Portsmouth, VA 23701).
