He was predeceased by: his parents, Leonard McKelvey and Belva Whelchel McKelvey; and his brothers, Arthur, Dale and James McKelvey.

He is survived by: his spouse Idalia Gonzalez McKelvey; his brother Robert Ray McKelvey; his daughter Laura McKelvey Toomey; his son-in-law Patrick Michael Toomey; and his grandchildren, Aileen Maria Toomey and John Kimball Toomey.
