He was predeceased by: his great grandchild Zachary Joseph Bailey; his parents, Robert Bowles and Mae Bowles; and his siblings, John Bowles, Joyce Rice, Doris Prince and Geneva Shifflett.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Mitchell Bowles; his children, Larry Bowles (Terry) and Paula Whetstone (Richard Shifflett); his grandchildren, Kortni Metz (Adam), Travis Whetstone and Kelsey Bailey (Zach); his siblings, Robert, Jr., James Bowles, Becky Tyler and Hazel Morrison (Thomas); and his friend Betty Magner. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Salem Presbyterian Church, PO Box 35, Studley Rd, VA 23162.
