He was predeceased by: his parents, Leomia and Willie T. Lanier, Sr.; his son John T. Lanier, Jr.; his brother Willie T. Lanier, Jr.; his wife Joyce Cooper Lanier; his brother Jerry L. Lanier (Roxanne); his brother-in-law Frederick Cooper (Cheryl); his nephew Freeman Cooper; his cousin Willie Lanier (Barbara); his close friend Antoinette Rhoades; and his friends, Harvey Graves and Alexander Owens III.
