He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl W. Tye and Maude Ruth Tye Dunnavant; his son Stephen Craig Tye; his brother Alan R. Tye; and his son-in-law Neal C. McKissick.

He is survived by: his wife Nellie F. Tye; his children, John E. Tye Jr. (Cora), Earl W. Tye (Leslie), Sharon T. Burcham (Chic), Alison T. McKissick and Mary T. Nelson (Steve); and his brother Robert E. Tye. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Truth Baptist Church - Building Fund, P.O. Box 2167, Mechanicsville, Va. 23116.
