He was predeceased by: his parents, James R. Bowles Sr. and Thelma Candler Bowles; his sister Sandra B. Chafin (James Chafin); his brother Thomas Eugene Hicks; his nieces and nephews, Lisa Palin (Tim) of Rocklin California, Brian Morrison (Julia) of Tehachapi, Doug Morrison (Julie) of Huntington Beach, Beverly Simmons (Mike) of Midlothian, Cathy Surber (Kevin) of Bristow, Jason Fields (Lori) of Waxahachie and Ben Grizzle of Midland, Texas.; and also Jamie Chafin of Lebanon.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Elizabeth Miller Bowles; his children, Jacqueline B. Peters (Powell Peters) of Virginia Beach, Virginia and James R. Bowles, III (Lynn McLaughlin Bowles) of Mechanicsville, Virginia; his grandchildren, Ashley B. Cosby (Dustin R. Cosby) of King William, Sarah E. Bowles (Brandon J. Goodrich) of Mechanicsville, Anthony W. Peters and Jessica F. Kronzer of McLean, Virginia; his sisters, Etta B. Morrison (Woody Morrison) of Bakersfield and Connie B. Grizzle (Jeff Grizzle) of Lebanon, Virginia.; and his aunts, Eva Fields of Lebanon and Velma Dean Clark of Virginia Beach, Virginia..
Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 15th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Bennett's Funeral Homes (8014 Lee Davis Rd, Mechanicsville, VA 23111). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, April 15th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that donations be made to Cool Spring Baptist Church youth programs or the Shriners Hospital for children.
