He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Slater and Mary Louise Slater; his wife Marion Anne Kidd Slater; his son Patrick Slater; and his brother Marion Clayton Tyler, Jr..

He is survived by: his sister Nancy Page Tyler (Buddy Lewis); his niece Jennifer Heindl (Mac Jefferies); his nephew Timothy Dunn (Shera Madison); and his close friends, Bubbie Flippen, Hennie and Jessie Britton.

Donations may be made to the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU.
