He was predeceased by: his parents, Alvin H. Carpenter, Sr. and Carrie Gibbs Carpenter; and his siblings, Ervel V. Dixon and Michael H. Carpenter. He is survived by: his wife Eunice C. Carpenter; and his sons, Alvin, III (Jeanne) and Greg (Kari). He is also survived by grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
