He was predeceased by: his wife Hazel F. Hiemstra; his parents, Frank Hiemstra and Gertrude Hiemstra of Oskaloosa; his brother David Hiemstra; and his daughter Diane Sue.

He is survived by: his brother John E. Hiemstra of West Nyack; and his children, Stephen Wayne, Karen Lee and John David.
