He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Franklin and Mable Ann Smith (Spurlock); his former wife Shirley Ann Smith (Beall); his son Larry Clark Smith; his brothers, Robert and Donald Smith; and his stepgrandson Chris Campbell.
He is survived by: his wife Margaret Smith of McDowell; his son Gary Lee Smith (Melody) of Monrovia, MD; his daughter-in-law Laura Smith of Berkeley Springs, WV; his grandchildren, Danelle Smith, Kevin Smith (Beth), Steven Smith (Casey), Gary Lee Smith Jr. (Christina) and David Brett Smith; his great grandchildren, Emaleigh, Waylon, Sadie, Georgia, Karolina, Indyanna, Gary Lee III and Hannah Smith; his stepdaughters, Cheryl Halterman of Staunton and Billie Jo Simmons (Michael Moats) of Churchville; his stepgrandchildren, Parker Halterman and Megan Dove (Matthew); and his stepgreat-grandson Wyatt Dove.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 4th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Obaugh Funeral Home - Highland County (8739 Highland Turnpike, McDowell, VA 24458). A funeral service was held on Thursday, December 5th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
