He was predeceased by: his parents, Gleaves Stroupe and Stella Funk Stroupe Mabe; and his siblings, Lydia Hick Collins, Shirley Mae Jenkins, Ernest Stroupe, Edward Eugene Stroupe and William Stroupe.
He is survived by: his children, Brenda Susie Buck of Wytheville and David Allen Stroupe of Piney; and his close friends, James "Buggie" Bishop, Bob Melton and Stanley Spicer. He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
