He was predeceased by: his parents, Roy Smoot and Della Bly Smoot; and his siblings, Bruce, Carl Lee, Garrett, John Smoot, Kathryn Rose, Evelyn Rose, Annabelle Paseur, Marie Hearl and Ruth Smoot.
He is survived by: his wife Peggy Lantz Smoot; his daughters, Lisa Garman (Brian), Teresa Merritt (Dennis) and Melissa Rice; and his grandchildren, Megan Garman, Jared Rice, Blake Garman, Tyler Rice and Corey Merritt.
