He was predeceased by: his parents, Wister Saunders and Sadie Tuck Saunders; his wife Harriet Gunter Saunders; his sons, Larry Saunders and Alvin Saunders; his siblings, Louise Saunders, Anne Caple, Laura Watkins, Vernon Saunders, Paul Saunders, Thomas Saunders and William Saunders; his grandson LaWan Hairston; and his great grandchild Prince Hairston.
He is survived by: his daughters, Deborah Hairston and Brenda Turner (Bobby); his sisters, Lovelean Grasty and Betty Saunders; and his sister-in-law Gwendalyn Gunter. He is also survived by five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Friday, November 1st 2024 from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM and on Saturday, November 2nd 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Wright Funeral Service Chapel (1425 Greensboro Rd, Martinsville, VA 24112). A funeral service was held on Saturday, November 2nd 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
