He was predeceased by: his parents, Obie Gravely and Bertha A. Gravely; and his siblings, Henrietta Turner of Virginia and James Gravely. He is survived by: his daughter Loretta Penn (Henry) of Martinsville, VA; his grandchildren, LaMaine of Martinsville, VA and FiAnna Penn of Martinsville, VA; his great grandchild Aleah Penn; and his stepchildren, Arnest, Annette, Donald and Tony Hairston. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
