He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward Hairston and Vergie "Jennie" Belcher Holland; and his daughter Deborah Belcher. He is survived by: his sons, Steven Belcher and Edward Belcher; his siblings, Ann Holland, Dorothy Easley, Carolyn Nevett, Angie Hairston, Stephanie Holland, Donnell Belcher, James Holland, Carl Hairston, Edward Hairston and John Holland; and his close friend Carolyn Rumley. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
