She was predeceased by: her parents, Conrad Hairston and Daisy Scott Hairston; and her siblings, Rissie Hairston, Jesse Hairston, Clemons Hairston and Dewey Hairston.
She is survived by: her husband James B. Carter; her brother James Hairston (Renay); and her sisters-in-law, Phyllis Hairston, Deana Hairston and Cherri Hairston.
