She was predeceased by: her parents, Jacob Hairston, Sr. and Nora Fowlks Hairston; her husband Clayton Alex Mahan, Sr.; her sons, Clayton Alex Mahan, Jr. and Michael Martin; and her siblings, Jacob Hairston, Jr., Mary "Sis" Gravely, Harriet Flood and Ella B. Staples.
She is survived by: her children, Dennis Mahan (Annie) of Martinsville, VA and Deborah N. Martin of Martinsville, VA; and her sisters, Virginia Roberts of Martinsville, VA and Barbara Carter of Martinsville, VA. She is also survived by three grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.
