He was predeceased by: his parents, John Minkema and Edith Minkema; his wife Dorothy Maccinni Minkema; and his brother Charlie Minkema. He is survived by: his children, Dawn Minkema, Corinna Taylor and John Minkema (Amy); his stepdaughter Dawn Desj; and his grandchildren, William Minkema, Emily Clark, Conner Young and Karissa Minkema. He is also survived by three great grandchildren.
