He was predeceased by: his parents, Harvey G. Shupe and Alice Jefferson Shupe; his wife Lillia Cox Shupe; and his siblings, Roy, Bill, Harvey Guildford, Hempton Shupe, Gaynell Wall, Virgie and Hallie Shupe.
He is survived by: his son Michael; his daughter-in-law Judy Shupe; his daughter Michelle S.; his son-in-law Eddie McKinney; and his siblings, Jim, Mack Shupe, Geneva Eanes, Toni Foley and Stella Meadors. He is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews.
