It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Evelena Smithson Akers (Martinsville, Virginia), who passed away on April 20, 2021, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her daughter Sue Akers; her siblings, Kitty Dickerson, JoAnn Byerly and Harley Smithson; and her grandsons, Jacob Akers, III and Sammy Cannaday.

She is survived by: her husband Jacob McCoy Akers, Sr.; her children, Vera Palmer and Junior Akers (Donna); her grandsons, Erik Palmer and Dustin Akers; and her great grandchildren, Jensen Palmer and Asher Akers.
