He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Shepherd Simms, Jr. and Bonnie Elizabeth McKinnon Simms; and his sisters, Frances Simms and Janice "Dottie" Deathridge. He is survived by: his children, Michael Leon Simms of Marion and Kristy Simms Nichols (Moses Roberts) of Abingdon; his grandchildren, Alex Orr, Jessica Evans, Taylor Brooks and Katie Winebarger; and his siblings, Charles Simms (Ann), David Simms (Norma), Tenna Moore and Barbara Shipton. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
