He is survived by: his aunt Peggy Clayton of Crozet; his uncles, Ray Hester of Marion and Rodney Hester of Free Union; his niece Cari Lynn Birt of Phoenix; his cousins, Elma Wyatt of Marion, Tommy Hester of Marion and Patty Clark; his close friends, Linda, Bimbo and Corey Blevins; and also, Virginia of Crozet and Lora of Crozet.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Joe's honor to Smyth County Humane Society, P.O. 1124, Marion, VA 24354.
