He was predeceased by: his parents, John Styron and Beatrice Styron; and his siblings, Faye, Bobby and Richard.
He is survived by: his wife Joanne Griffith Styron of Marion; his children, Kimberly Bird of Bluefield, John B. Styron, II (Julia Dearborn) of Oxford, N. C. and Michael Terrence Styron (Diarmuid Corcoran) of Emerald Isle, N. C.; his brother Phillip Styron (Sylvia) of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and his grandchildren, Leslie Styron of Corvallis, Ore, Hailey Bird of Pittsburgh and Corey Bird of Topsail Island, N. C.. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
