He was predeceased by: his parents, Gretchen Freeman and Andy Freeman; his siblings, Bob and Norma "Boots"; his daughter Charlotte; and his grandson Brandon.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Jane Freeman (Armstrong); his children, Gene Jr., Gloria and Angie; his grandchildren, Lynn, Chris, Shane, Tony, David, Michael, Ashley and Joshua; his great grandchildren, Brittany, Sam, Gabi, Morgan, Kaylie, Kelsie, Autumn and Carter; and his great great grandchildren, Ryder, McKinleigh and Ivieanne.

Viewing was held on Monday, October 28th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Affinity Funeral Service (2720 Enterprise Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23294). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, October 29th 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Affinity Funeral Service, Richmond Chapel (2720 Enterprise Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23294). A graveside service was held on Wednesday, October 30th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Rose Lawn Cemetery (4410 Lee Hwy, Marion, VA 24354).
