He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest Robert Dodson and Lillie Catherine Dyer Dodson; and his siblings, Lawrence Clark Dodson, Marie Yowell and Dorothy Alger.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Ann Smith Dodson; his daughters, Debra Ann Gordon (Jackie) of Rochelle and Sharon Gail Utz (Tony) of Etlan; his grandchildren, Brian Gordon (Lauran) of Rochelle, Mark Gordon (Amy) of Ferrum, Chad Utz (Melinda) of Etlan and Jody Seale (Junior) of Aylor; and his great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Jack Gordon, Emma, Paisley Gordon, Abigail Utz, Huntlyn Grace Seale and Levi Seale.
