Richard William Martin Jr. Obituary
Richard William Martin, Jr., 64, of Madison Heights passed away Thursday, March 23, 2023 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the loving husband of Sharon Moorefield Martin for 30 years.
Born on July 19, 1958 in Lebanon, PA, he was the son of the late Richard William Martin, Sr. and Edith Jones Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a stepson, Graeme Justin Kutt.
Richard was a retired professional firefighter having served in the Augusta Georgia Fire Department, Martinez Fire Department and Savannah River Site Fire Unit with over 20 years of service and a retired customer service representative from Warfield-Rohr Casket Company with 20 years of service. He was an avid gristmill enthusiast, bee keeper, hobby viticulturist, and loved spending time outdoors.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to cherish his memory two half-sisters, Brenda Hefner of Washington, Georgia, and Judy McMinn of Amarillo, Texas, a brother-in-law, Garry Moorefield and wife, Josephine Virginia Moorefield and a nephew, Tony Moorefield all of Roanoke; and his feline companion, Tiggy.
A Celebration of Richard's Life will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 28, 2023 in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service and Crematory 427 Graves Mill Road in Lynchburg by Chaplain Richard Thigpen with burial to follow in Meade Cemetery in Madison Heights. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.
