She was predeceased by: her parents, Clyde A. Merkey and Sophie B. Merkey; her husband Whitney Brown Purvis, Sr.; and her siblings, Louise M. Denton, Doris Smith, Joyce N. Thurman, Aubrey W. Merkey and Adrian Merkey.

She is survived by: her children, Whitney B. Purvis (Mary), Cynthia P. Martin (Dawson), Pamela P. Hudson (Wayne) and Teresa P. Wright (Bill); and her brothers, Gerald Merkey (Lois), David Carlton Merkey (Lola) and Weldon Merkey (Pat). She is also survived by seven grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.
