She was predeceased by: her husband Walter Lee Steele, Jr.; her parents, Malcom "John" Carpenter and Margaret Cash Carpenter; her brother Richard "Dan" Carpenter; and her granddaughter Stephanie Renee Bethel.

She is survived by: her children, Deborah Taylor of Madison Heights, Rhonda Steele of Madison Heights, Barry Steele (Norma Jean) of Madison Heights and Edward Steele (Judy) of Madison Heights; her sister Janet Hollingsworth of Amherst; her grandchildren, Chad Steele, Cory Steele and Allison Taylor; and her great grandchildren, Parker, Rayne and Matthias Steele.
