He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell Earl and Ethel Sigley Funk; his former wife Patricia Thorne Funk; and his brothers, Aubrey, Harry, Clifford and Ralph Funk.

He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Whitmore Funk; his daughters, Cathy Greenwood (Eddie) of Thomasville, NC, Melinda Massie of Lynchburg and Ramona Wright (Rodney) of Madison Heights; his stepchildren, Cheryl Hobbs (Joseph) of Madison Heights, Gregory Maddox of Bedford and Irvin Maddox of Buffalo Creek, CO; and his sisters, Margie Boydoh of Elon, Judy Teagarden (John) of Hundred, WV and Loretta Denton (Wayne) of Madison Heights. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
