He was predeceased by: his wife Linda Morgan Mays; his parents, Louis Gleaves and Rhetta Mays; his son David Allen Mays Jr.; and his stepson-in-law Bootsie Kidd.
He is survived by: his children, Darrell Mays (Jenny) and Deborah Blankenship (Billy); and his stepchildren, Bryan Morris (Jane) and Valerie Kidd. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
