He was predeceased by: his parents, Reverend Emmett Cleveland Wood and Francis Dudley Wood; and his brothers, Maynard Wood and Preston Wood. He is survived by: his wife Penny Wood; his children, Sherry Wood Brown, Chris Wood (Gail), David Wood (Marsha) and Ann Whitney Rose (Lonnie); his sister Marie Fisher; and his grandchildren, Alison Wood, Katy Butt (Zach), Hannah Mays, Mary Thompson, Amber Wood, David Wood Jr. and Matthew Brown. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren.
