He was predeceased by: his parents, Thomas L. Powell and Carrie Bailey; his wife Grace Powell; his children, Gordon Powell and Michelle Powell; and his former wife Dorothy Bridgeforth.
He is survived by: his daughters, Dianna Callahan (Daniel) and Carrie Counts; his stepdaughter Pamela Bridgeforth; his nephew Alophonso Reid; and his nieces, Brenda Calloway and Jocelyn Hall (Elijah).
