He is survived by : his wife Susan Kathryn Bedel Sapyta; his children, Kathryn Susan Winkelmann (Karl), Elizabeth Jane Whiting (Jeff) and Joseph Bedel Sapyta; and his grandchildren, Karley Susan Winkelmann, Alyson Elizabeth Winkelmann, Madyson Rose Whiting and Samuel Patrick Sapyta.

A Mass was held on Thursday, June 27th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the St. Thomas More Catholic Church (3015 Roundelay Rd, Lynchburg, VA 24502).
