It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Ardella Valencourt Chumney of Lynchburg, Virginia, born in Manistee, Michigan, who passed away on March 1, 2025, at the age of 86, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her husband Bernard Furman Chumney; her parents, Marvin Valencourt and Mary Valencourt; her siblings, Regena Hall (Grover), Alvina Valencourt, Iris Richardson, Leona Valencourt and Marvin "Bud" Valencourt; her nephews, Michael D. Hall, Marvin Duane Valencourt and William James Chumney; and her in-laws, May Bell Walker Chumney and W. R. "Sonny" Chumney.
She is survived by: her daughter Valerie Ann Chumney; her niece Janice Lee Rice; her nephews, Scott Alan Richardson (Cathy), Andrew Richardson (Diane), Steven Robbins Valencourt, Thomas Chumney, Jr., Matthew Chumney and Jonathan Chumney; her in-laws, Florence Spaulding and Tommy Chumney (Linda); and her great-nieces, Kristen Richardson, Caroline Richardson and Olivia Richardson. She is also survived by nephews and close friends and neighbors.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 9th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church (73 Meherrin River Rd, Chase City, VA 23924). A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 9th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
