He was predeceased by: his wife Dawn Schmidt; and his daughter Teresa M. Carroll. He is survived by: his children, Michael J. Schmidt Sr. of Jacksonville, N. C. and Diane K. Potter of Summerville; and his close friend Norman Harris. He is also survived by grandchildren; great-grandchildren.
