She was predeceased by: her parents, Lurty Smith and Ethel Derrow Smith; her husband Thurman "Bud" Bennett; her son Timothy Scott Bennett; her stepsons, Larry, Jerry and Terry Bennett; her siblings, Francis Comer, Christine Derrow, Pauline Smith, Nancy Hinkle, Howard Smith and David Smith; and her granddaughter Barbara Kite.

She is survived by: her son Vernon Smith; and her great grandchildren, Randy Gatewood, Brandon Shifflett, Alicia Kite, Jeremy Kite and Justin Kite.
